As a teenager, David demonstrated verve as a singer, arranger and multi instrumentalist, which led to his first career as a renowned session musician, singing and playing a range of instruments with some of Europe’s leading orchestras, bands and ensembles. At a chance meeting in 1996, David’s attitude and approach, albeit musically, to achieving and sustaining ‘world-class performance’ was spotted by the Managing Director of DHL International, who wanted to bring his influential mindset into the business. David was offered a role with DHL and left his professional (and very badly paid!) music career behind. The MD’s eye for talent was soon evidenced, as within 12 months, David became DHL’s #1 global performer and was awarded a 5 star holiday to Mauritius (which he and his new wife took as their honeymoon!)
Since then, David has spent over 11 years aligning his expertise to carve an impressive track record of senior leadership roles across Change Management, Innovation, Business Development, Strategic Execution, Commercial and Organisational Development within such global businesses as FedEx, Marriott Hotels and Unilever as well as smaller, Private and Public sector businesses. Through these diverse roles, David has gained a wealth of experience, as well as precious insights into the ‘real’ issues that lie under the surface of many organisations. Using this knowledge, he has helped to build highly innovative, performance-driven cultures, with a specific focus around not just unlocking people’s creative potential, but channelling those creative outputs toward the execution of critical organisational goals.
At a keynote in 2006, David was approached by Dr Stephen R Covey (author of the global best seller “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”) and his global consultancy firm, FranklinCovey, and asked to consider joining them. In May 06, he joined as UK and Ireland Area Director. In 2009, David was offered, and took, the role as CEO with newly formed creativity and execution experts Standing Ovation Limited. In his business career, David has diagnosed, designed and delivered custom solutions internationally on cultural change, creativity and innovation, effectiveness, leadership development, execution, relationship management and sales performance for a range of clients including Toyota, ASDA WAL MART, The NHS, Sony Ericsson, The Welsh Assembly Government, Balfour Beatty, Walt Disney, Whitbread, Unilever and BAA.
David lives in Derbyshire with his Wife, Kelly, and their 3 Children. He continues to musically perform at an international level, as well as arranging music of many styles (though his dream of creating and commissioning a film score remains elusive!). He also loves to spend as much time as possible in the sun with Kelly and the children!
